Ann Weaver - Design Your Own Top-Down Triangle Shawl!!!
Two Session Workshop
Saturday, January 21, 2-4 PM
Saturday, January 28, 2-4 PM
Taught by Ann Weaver
Set yourself free from patterns and make your own perfect shawl! There are endless ways to customize a basic triangle shawl using only knit and purl stitches.
In addition to learning the basic techniques necessary to knit a shawl, this workshop will cover making various types of increases and the effects they create (including mirrored increases), transitioning different ways between knit and purl rows, working with two colors to create striped and slipped-stitch patterns, creating a flared or ruffled edge…as well as other techniques like creating braids, adding simple yarn overs and lace motifs! None of these techniques will require charts or use more than one color at a time.
The workshop will feature shawls using a wide range of color combinations and techniques to serve as your inspiration!
All participants will receive a booklet with photos of examples of the numerous techniques for future reference.
Skills Needed: Ability to cast on, knit, purl, pick up stitches and work at least one type of increase.
Materials Needed: At least 400 yards of fingering to worsted weight yarn, a circular needle at least 24 inches long in the size that gives you the drape you like (for fingering weight yarn a US size 7 or 8 needle is recommended; for thicker yarns, swatch your yarn to make sure that your needle choice creates a fabric with a nice drape), at least 4 stitch markers.
Preparation: It is recommended that you swatch your yarn in either garter or stockinette stitch and then block your swatch to make sure that you like the result of your yarn and needle combination.
Cost: $75 for two day workshop
